Community Service

As one of the key pillars of this organization, the brothers of Beta Alpha Psi are proud to engage in numerous community service initiatives. We understand the importance of giving back to our communities. Thus, the Lambda Chapter makes it a tradition to hold and participate in community service events every semester. These events range from providing pro-bono tax consulting services, to environmental protection, to cause-driven fundraising (i.e. Walk for AIDS). Examples of past events are detailed below.

San Francisco Food Bank

The food bank provides food to over 400 non-profit agencies, who give meals to low-income families and individuals. These agencies are largest soup kitchens to AIDS service providers, health clinics, homeless shelters, etc. At the event, Beta Alpha Psi helped sort and package 5000 pounds of frozen vegetables into smaller bags to be shipped out to agencies. Approximately 5500 people were benefited from this effort.

Tax-Aid sponsored by KPMG

In its 18th year, Tax-Aid offers free tax preparation services to low-income families in the Bay Area. Beta Alpha Psi helped prepare tax returns for low-income families. We helped them take full advantage of tax credits such as the Earned Income Credit and Child Care Credit which substantially maximized their savings.

Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency

BOSS operates 29 sites in Alameda County, providing comprehensive services to homeless, poor, and disabled people to work toward self-sufficiency. Beta Alpha Psi helped local gardens with environmental maintenance. The vegetables that are grown are used at local shelters throughout Alameda County.

Jack O’Lantern - Children's Fairyland

Since 1950, Children’s Fairyland has been delighting children and their parents with whimsical storybook sets, gentle rides, friendly animals, wonder-filled puppet shows, and inspired live entertainment. Beta Alpha Psi gladly assisted with logistics and coordination of one of their largest events.

Alameda County Food Bank

The Food Bank's mission is to provide nutritious food to the low-income residents of the City of Alameda on a non-discriminating basis. Founded in 1977 by a group of concerned local citizens who saw the need in the community for a source of free food for those in need, the Alameda Food Bank is a private, non-affiliated, non-profit, tax-exempt agency. Beta Alpha Psi helped organize, package and deliver food donated from supermarkets and food drives.

Light the Night - Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Beta Alpha Psi helped set up and organize the “Light the Night” Walk event sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Move Against AIDS

United through music, 8000 people took a stand to generate funds for Pangaea Global AIDS foundation and the San Francisco AIDS foundation.

Playland-Not-At-The-Beach

Playland Not At The Beach is a not-for-profit family fun center in the East Bay. Beta Alpha Psi has regularly volunteered over the past years to help build the "Museum of Fun" which has recently opened.

Environmental Protection - Berkeley Aquatic Park

Aquatic Park was constructed between 1935 and 1937 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). It was built as part of the Berkeley Waterfront Project along with the construction of the Bayshore Highway and Yacht Harbor. Tide gates were constructed to help keep the water level constant in Aquatic Park Lake. A citywide celebration entitled “Pageant of the Land and Sea” was held on May 7, 1937, to formally dedicate the park for public use. The brothers of Beta Alpha Psi regularly volunteer to help preserve the wildlife and nature at this historical site.
