Frequently Asked Questions
What is the proper attire for rush?
Meet the Chapter: Business Casual
Social Night: Campus Casual
Personal/Group Interviews: Business Professional
Campus casual refers to your normal, everyday clothing. Business casual usually consists of slacks in a dark color and a nice sweater or dress shirt. Guys do not need to wear a tie. Closed toe shoes are preferred, but nice sandals are suitable for girls. Professional dress includes a suit in a dark color, a dress shirt or sweater, and a tie for guys.
What makes BAΨ different?
Along with the other two business fraternities, BAΨ promotes business education and professional development among its members through pledging, alumni connections, and strong brotherhood. BAΨ differentiates itself through our chapter's smaller size, our exclusive recruiting events (Meet the Firms and Internship Forum), as well as the diversity of our brotherhood (our organization is inclusive to all majors and career paths).
What is pledging?
Pledging is a ten week process consisting of intense professional development and business education.
What do I need to do to pledge BAΨ?
Rushees should try to attend as many rush events as possible including Meet the Chapter, Social Night, and both the personal and group interviews. From the pool of rushees, a group of pledges are chosen. There is also an initiation fee that is promptly returned if you are not given a bid. As a pledge, there will be events that you are required to attend, but there are also many events where your participation is voluntary.
Do I have to show up to all the recruiting events to pledge?
Although not all of the rush events are mandatory, it is highly suggested that rushees attend as many as possible. These are the few opportunities to meet the members and make yourself stand out.
Is BAΨ the "accounting fraternity"?
The Lambda Chapter promotes, encourages, and provides resources for members pursuing any and all business-related careers, including banking, consulting, management/operations, accounting, marketing, etc. We also have many members pursuing future careers in law, engineering, and medicine. We appreciate the academic diversity within our fraternity and, by no means, are limited to one particular profession.
What will I get out of BAΨ?
Not only will you encounter intense professional development and fantastic business education, you will gain a true understanding of your own skills and potential, as well as a brotherhood of a lifetime.
How big is BAΨ?
The Lambda Chapter at UC Berkeley maintains a membership of about 40 to 55 members. Beta Alpha Psi has over 300,000 activated members worldwide.
Why is the Lambda Chapter kept relatively small?
The Lambda Chapter is kept the smallest of the three business fraternities in order to promote both brotherhood and quality among members. There is never a set amount of bids distributed per semester as we continue to value quality over quantity. The smaller atmosphere allows each member to sincerely get to know one another, thus developing true bonds of brotherhood which result in a stronger alumni network.
How much time will pledging take?
Pledging is a vigorous journey yet a process dependent on your own effort and time put into the fraternity.
I'm a first-semester freshman or junior transfer-can I rush BAΨ?
Although we highly recommend a cumulative collegiate 3.3+ GPA, your situation can be discussed with the Pledge Director during rush for any special exceptions.
Why are alumni connections so important?
Beta Alpha Psi would not uphold the business leverage, strength, and reputation it wields today without the continued support of our alumni. These individuals represent the top firms in every single field including banking, consulting, accounting, and beyond. Our alumni frequently participate in both on-campus and off-campus activities to further our business education and knowledge while providing unique, exclusive career opportunities for our brothers, thus vitally improving our organization day by day.
